Alert: The Town of Byron will be closed on Monday, September 1st in observance of Labor Day.
Welcome to the official website of the Town of Byron, New York — a community rich in history, character, and charm. Established in 1820 when it was divided from the Town of Bergen, Byron was named in honor of the famed poet Lord Byron. Once known as Byron Center, our town has a colorful past, with hamlets like South Byron (originally “Brusselville”) and North Byron (nicknamed “Pumpkin Hill”) each adding their unique stories to our heritage. From historic landmarks like the Bennet Mill and the old Arrowhead Store to the nationally recognized Hiscock Archaeological Site — where mastodon remains and ancient artifacts continue to be unearthed — Byron is a place where history comes alive. Whether you’re a resident or visitor, we invite you to explore our town, learn more about our past at the Byron Museum, and discover the warmth of our close-knit community.
